LIVE REVIEW: MALLORY KNOX @ LEEDS BECKETT UNI, 12TH NOVEMBER 2014

As my timing is complete rubbish getting to gigs, I missed Moose Blood, the first support.

The second support of the night came from FORT HOPE, a band I’d never heard of but thoroughly enjoyed. Their sound reminded me of You Me At Six (another band which I love) and there was good crowd interaction and a brilliant atmosphere. Certainly a band that I would listen to and go see again.

The main support was of course FRANKIREO AND THE CELLABRATION, the former guitarist of My Chemical Romance on his first venture since the split. Before the gig I didn’t even click and realise who it actually was however, as soon as they came on stage and began to performing I said to my other half ‘this reminds me of My Chemical Romance….a lot’. With that, I realised and found it pretty amusing that I’d completely bypassed all the screaming girls with cameras in the air. Music wise, the set was good and it felt a lot more personal than the famous MCR gigs that I had previously attended. I enjoyed them!

Finally, the headline act, MALLORY KNOX. I’ve only ever seen them twice before, opening up the main stage at Leeds Festival 2013 and supporting A Day To Remember back in February but wow, they were incredible! I literally cannot fault anything from their performance. Singer, Mikey Chapman interacted with the fans throughout the set making the atmosphere fantastic after encouraging everyone to sing along to their music. Their 14 song set had a good mix of older songs as well as songs of the new (and brilliant album), ‘Asymmetry’.
Overall, this was a fantastic gig where I have explored more ‘new’ bands with different musical styles and talents.
