After spending a lot of time behind closed doors You Me At Six are back with new tracks and a highly anticipated new album. In the run up to the album launch the band decided to get back on the road on a more intimate tour of places in the UK that they hadn't visited for a long time. One of which being Sheffield O2 Academy. I saw these guys at this very venue 6 years ago. It's crazy how far they've come in that time.
We got to the venue in good time which meant we were lucky enough to catch VANT. I'd not particularly listened to the band before but they brought an indie edge to the gig that the crowd seemed pretty impressed with. Effortlessly they generated an energy in the room and literally owned the stage during their lengthy, 10-song set.
Included in the set were tracks such as 'The Answer', 'Parking Lot', 'Fly By Alien', 'Karma Seeker' and 'Peace & Love' which have all had airtime on BBC Radio 2 as part of Annie Mac's 'Hottest Record In The World' feature. Pretty cool! Certainly one to watch in the next couple of years.
If I'm being brutally honest I'd have expected them to open with something more upbeat than 'When We Were Younger' but either way, the crowd were instantly involved singing away. The set then continued with 'Bite My Tongue' and 'Fresh Start Fever' before turning to some older tracks which I'm sure the crowd all thoroughly appreciated - I know we certainly did.
Unfortunately the set seemed to pass mega quick and the night was nearly over. An encore of 'No One Does It Better', 'Room To Breathe' and 'Night People' ended what truly was an incredible night, These guys are touring the new album in April 2017 and I would honestly say that they are a band you need to see live at some point! Until next time YMAS!
You can pre-order Night People here and believe me, there are some fantastic bundles on offer!
